Interesting visit to Stockport art gallery. Went to drop off some flyers to a range of sites around the town and finally to the gallery. Arrived in time to see John Eastwood's exhibition being put up. A good talk to him and an interesting collection of pictures. A similar topic to mine but as photographs, will be fascinating to see how people react to my show, in the room, after his finishes.

A busy morning finishing a study of Manchester Christmas Markets. Painted the background a few weeks ago and then later blocked in some colours. Today I was adding the details. Thought I'd finished then went back to it and didn't like the figures on the right hand side so rubbed them out. More or less finished now. Will leave it a couple of weeks and then see how I feel.
Poster and flyers ready, paintings ready. Now to start taking flyers round the area and then sending invites. Hard work this exhibition lark.
Sometimes I wonder if it's more important how you describe your work. The cleverer you sound the better. I appreciate sculpture and the thought that goes into it. But at times I do wonder. Some examples here of the descriptions of the work from a recent visit to a gallery. What do you think?
Maybe it's just me but I find some modern sculptures hard to take at times . More to follow tomorrow!!
Last minute decision to go to Liverpool and a chance to see the Matisse exhibition at the Tate Modern. Excellent but would have liked to see more of his work on show.
A busy three days putting 66 mirror plates on the back of my paintings using 132 screws. Only needed two plasters for the cuts though. I thought art was relaxing. I wouldn't mind but the exhibition isn't until May. Posters etc. next.
Interesting visit to Stockport Art Gallery today. I have an exhibition there in May and needed to sort out a few things. Also a chance to see the present exhibitions including one by a facebook friend Steven Bruce. Favourites were the Market scene and Trams. An impressive show. Hope mine looks as good. Will post information in a few days.
As the weather hasn't been very good it was nice to just get out for a short walk when the rain stopped. Went down to see paintings by local people in the Eccles gallery. Two members of my art club are exhibiting Ged and Robert James Burrows. Impressive work and a nice chat about the gallery. It looks very impressive now it has been updated. It's a shame that it is a little out of the way and not enough people know about it. Shows what you can do with community support and enthusiastic people organising it. Now must get some painting done! |
